Sewing Apprentice - Full Time, $18/hour to start

 

Position Overview:

Based in Gordonsville, VA, Gillian Valentine is an approachable luxury lifestyle brand focusing on sleepwear and loungewear with a curation of home-goods and décor and apothecary. Signature Gillian Valentine pieces feature prints from artists spanning the globe. The brand uses organic cotton made in the United States, milled in Indiana and produced locally. Our core values are “Creativity, Collaboration, and Sustainability.” In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn high-level sewing skills to develop GV products including; Pajamas, Pillowcases, Dish Towels and Sleep Masks.

This role is a production job based out of our store in Gordonsville. If you have skills in sewing, as a hobby, or a background in making crafts you are the perfect candidate. This role requires a level of technical savvy and an eye for detail. We are a teamwork oriented company with a culture of personal development and growth. If you are not familiar with sewing, we have a senior master seamstress that will be training you through out a 12 week course.

Your first 12 weeks will be a training program:

Weeks 1-2: Cutting material & Sewing Dish Towels
Weeks 3-4: Learning to Sew Pillowcases & Sleep Mask
Weeks 5-12: Sewing Pajamas; pants, shorts, nightgowns

From there you will be handed responsibilities to make product based on priorities of the business.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time, some sitting, some walking. Employees will be expected to repeat much of the physical motions throughout the shift that may include the use of their feet, legs, arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Employees will operate a variety of equipment and hand tools in a repetitive manner requiring a high degree of manual dexterity and close visual attention.

The employee must be able to carry and/or lift up to 50 lbs. if needed

● Some knowledge of sewing

Education: High School degree or equivalent

Paid Training: Basic sewing skills. Master seamstress that will train you onsite in Charlottesville.

Full-Time Position: Monday-Friday, 9am - 5pm
